College Application Checklist:

 

 

• Common Application - One application for over 800+ schools

• • Search Schools through College Board, Naviance, College Websites, etc.

  • Fill out individual applications (if not on Common Application)

  • Fill out Common app

  • Add each College to the Common Application

  • Complete your essay - Write your master copy in Google Drive, then cut/paste

  • Supplement writing sections may be required for each college

  • Possible Application fees; free/reduced lunch students have (8) applications waivers

• Letters of recommendation

  • Ask early

  • Ask teachers who know your work ethic and have had good experiences with you in class.

  • Request on Naviance (Search for Email with Video Instructions)

• Naviance

  • Request Transcripts on Naviance (Search for Email with Video Instructions)

  • Request Letters of recommendation on Naviance

  • Track Colleges, plans for application deadlines, acceptance decisions and application progress

• SAT Scores

  • Can be optionally required for some 4 year colleges/universities

  • Not required for any 2 year Community College or BCC

  • Recommended to take SAT or ACT at least twice

  • Always submit if you have them

  • Must send through College Board only; the College/Career Center cannot send for you

  • Fees may apply

  • Manage scores and additional information through College Board

• Essays

  • Not required for BCC

  • Do them early!

  • Have read by as many people as possible

  • Edit and ask Staff Members to Edit

  • Be sure to follow prompts given

  • Short answer/ supplement essays may be added depending on schools applied to

  • Avoid writing about other family members/friends and mental health issues; not appropriate for admissions.
